Milwaukee Ballet leading artist charged with battery in domestic dispute

Milwaukee Ballet leading artist Davit Hovhannisyan has been charged with battery and disorderly conduct for an altercation with his ex-wife.

Hovhannisyan and the victim got into an argument Sunday night when he began yelling at her and eventually beating her with a bath rug, according to a criminal complaint.

The fight came to an end when Hovhannisyan slapped the victim across the face, the complaint says.

Hovhannisyan faces charges of Misdemeanor Battery, Domestic Abuse Assessments and Disorderly Conduct, Domestic Abuse Assessments. He faces fines up to $11,000, no more than one year in prison or both. 

Hovhannisyan joined Milwaukee Ballet in 2004 and has danced principal roles in many ballets, according to the group's website.
