After a crash killed a woman and her 11-month-old daughter, Milwaukee Ald. Tony Zielinski is calling for red-light camera systems.
Police said the driver in that crash ran a red light near 35th Street and Capitol Drive.
Zielinski said the cameras would not only save lives, but add citation revenue for the city.
“In some jurisdictions, under-pavement sensors or other technology can allow red-light cameras to capture speeds in addition to drivers running intersections,” he said in a news release.
In a news release, Zielinski said Chicago fines red-light violators $100 or more. He thinks a speeding “multiplier” in Milwaukee could bring even more money to Milwaukee.
Zielinski asked the state legislature to allow Milwaukee to install the cameras.
