Merrimac Ferry opens for 2018 season

Ferry shuttles vehicles across Wisconsin River
Posted

The Merrimac Ferry is officially open for the 2018 season, the state Department of Transportation announced.

Wisconsin's only free ferry, which shuttles traffic 24 hours a day, seven days a week on Highway 113, holds 15 vehicles at a time - including pedestrians and bicycles.

Last year, the ferry shuttled nearly 300,000 vehicles between Okee on the east bank of the Wisconsin River and Merrimac on the west bank.

The ferry will remain open until ice begins to form on the Wisconsin River.
