Police release vehicle description of suspect in deadly hit-and-run crash involving children

MILWAUKEE — UPDATE: Police say they're requesting the public's help in identifying and locating the driver and vehicle involving in a deadly hit-and-run involving children.

Officers say they are looking for a 2007-2009 gray Saturn Aura with tinted windows with front end damage.

"You had an unbelievably thoughtless person who decided that they were simply going to ignore our traffic laws," said Milwaukee Mayor Tom Barrett. "This is every parent's nightmare."

Police say shortly after 5:30 p.m., three children were walking across the street when a suspect's vehicle traveling eastbound on Center Street drove through a red light.

A 10-year-old boy, a 6-year-old girl, and a 4-year-old girl were hit. Police say the 6-year-old died from her injuries. The other two children were taken to the hospital with serious injuries.

"We have to find this person who knew what he done, that knew he had hit little children... and he left the scene," said Mayor Barrett. "This is the time we can step up some we can find this individual ... you may think it's exciting to ignore our traffic laws, but a child is dead tonight."
