SHEBOYGAN -- Sheboygan police are searching for three people in connection with the stabbing death of a 38-year-old man.

The stabbing took place early Monday near 13th street and St Clair Avenue. The victim was taken to a hospital, where he later died.

Family members said the victim is Phillip Spell and he was killed by someone he knew. They say the dispute was over $40.

"He stabbed him once in the heart, the second time further up the chest and then they ran him over with a car,"  said Amber Ernisse, the victim's niece.

Jason Ramsey said his brother just moved into the apartment on St Clair.  He was a father of three and had started a new job as a chef.

"We haven't seen this kid in months," he said. "Why all of a sudden last night did he come down this road? That's the million dollar question. I want to know, over $40?"

Right now police are looking for Candace Deblaey, 31, Patrick Evans, 27 and Donavan Cotter, 22.

The three left the scene in a Chrysler Town and Country van with the license plate number 122-VKC .
