A man seen wearing a Ku Klux Klan robe near a Conover, Wis. highway was not committing a crime or violating any state statue, law enforcement officials said.

The Vilas County Sheriff's Office said it received several calls on June 12 reporting a man wearing KKK robes, drinking a beer and waving at traffic on CTH K at Monheim Road.

The man, who has been identified by deputies, was not creating a traffic hazard nor violating Wisconsin State Statutes, and therefore did not require law enforcement action.

"While the sheriff's office was not able to take enforcement action, the sheriff's office does not condone his behavior or actions," the office said in a press release. "The KKK beliefs run contrary to Vilas County Law Enforcement's mission, values, and beliefs."

The sheriff's office said it will continue to monitor the man's "actions" and patrol the area.
