MILWAUKEE -- A man was killed in a shooting on Milwaukee's south side Monday morning, according to the Milwaukee Police Department.

The murder happened around 10:30 a.m. inside the Corona Jewelry store on the corner of Greenfield and 7th Street.

According to the area's Alderman, Jose Perez, the store has been in the community for a long time but just recently transferred ownership.

"This is just a real tragedy," Perez said.

He said he knows the owners of the Corona Jewelry store through the licensing process and that the city has never had a problem with this store.

"This neighborhood has a lot of strong businesses that bring a lot of people to the neighborhood," Perez said. "We have a strong neighborhood association nearby and we put a lot of work into the infrastructure around here to keep it safe."

The jewelry store also serves as a money transfer location.

Milwaukee police haven't confirmed if the owners were at the store when the shooting happened.

Police also said they're still investigating the circumstances that led up to the shooting.

"It's pretty well protected in there," Perez said. "I mean it's glass and some of it is fortified glass which gives the owners some safeguard, so I don't know the details of what happened, but it is a tragedy."

Police said they're still looking for a suspect, pictured above. If you know anything about this crime, please contact Milwaukee police at 414-935-7360.
