PHILLIPS, Wis. (AP) -- An elderly man has died in a kayaking accident in northern Wisconsin.

The Price County Sheriff's Department says the body of the 82-year-old man was recovered from the Elk River near Phillips on Wednesday afternoon.

WAOW-TV reports investigators say the victim collided with another kayaker while navigating around fallen trees in the rain-swollen river. Strong currents from recent heavy rain swamped the man's kayak. The other kayaker was able to call for help from a nearby home.

Authorities say the victim was found outside the kayak and was wearing a life jacket. His name has not been released.

The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources and the Price County Coroner's Office are investigating.
