MILWAUKEE — A man was charged after a fatal car crash that killed a woman and severely injured a 5-month-old child.

Tyshawn Combs faces multiple criminal charges after driving 107 mph and crashing into the center median on Highway 145 near 91st Street on Feb. 19, according to the criminal complaint.

The Milwaukee County Sheriff's Office described the accident as "a 2015 black Honda Civic that appeared to be torn in half." Half of the vehicle was in the northbound lanes, and the other half was in the southbound lanes.

After the crash, the woman — who was ejected from the car — was knocked unconscious and died three days later from her injuries.

The 5-month-old child was diagnosed with a brain bleed and facial injuries.

Combs admitted to police that he was driving the car but claims he was cut off by a Chevrolet Malibu, causing him to lose control and crash.

Witnesses said the two cars appeared to be racing.

Combs does not have a good driving record. Prior to this fatal crash, he had been cited 11 times for driving with a suspended driver's license.
