OAK CREEK — A man has been charged in connection to a January shooting that left two children injured after throwing snowballs at a passing vehicle.

Two children were taken to the hospital after being shot on Jan. 4, Milwaukee police said. The shooting happened on the 6100 block of West Birch Street.

Police said the children were with a group of other juveniles throwing snowballs at passing cars when one hit a white Toyota and a driver opened fire into the group.

A criminal complaint said that William Carson, 24, was believed to be the shooter in the incident.

Carson was arrested by Oak Creek police on Jan. 12 after police believed he was driving under the influence of intoxicants. Police found a handgun in his vehicle. In a test fire, police determined that the casings from Carson's gun were highly likely the same ones found at the snowball shooting scene.

The U.S. Department of Justice ran a firearm trace summary on the gun and found that Carson had purchased the gun 11 days before the shooting. In an interview with police, Carson said that he was the only one who has ever had any access to the gun.

Carson was charged with first degree reckless injury, use of a dangerous weapon (2 counts) and first degree endangering safety, use of a deadly weapon (5 counts).
