An armed man was taken into custody Friday night after holding up in a west side house, which left students stranded in a nearby school.
Streets had been blocked off near 35th and Kilbourn as police tried to get the guy out.
Police said it started as a domestic violence incident. A man then fired a gun and refused to leave the home.
Negotiators were on scene along with the SWAT team and paramedics.
A neighbor, Mike Wendell, who lives across the street said he heard sirens around 4 p.m.
“Then swat showed up and just jammed the road with all the vehicles,” he said.
Police said the man was taken into custody around 9:45 p.m. peacefully, without incident.
Students were not allowed to leave Story Elementary down the street from the incident for some time. Police said they were released before the suspect was taken into custody.
