MILWAUKEE — A local Milwaukee women's shelter, the Cathedral Center, Inc. (CCI), announced that it was selected to receive a $1.25 million grant from the Day 1 Families Fund to help end homelessness.

The Day 1 Families Fund, launched by Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos, issues annual awards to organizations and civic groups that work to provide shelter and hunger support to young families.

“Thanks to the Day 1 Families Fund, Cathedral Center will be able to grow programs and services that make a transformative difference in the lives of families in Milwaukee who face homelessness. This gift will allow us to empower more families faster through comprehensive case management services, partnerships with landlords, and employment services," said Executive Director of CCI Donna Rongholt-Migan.

The grant will be used to connect families with shelter and support, and will also allow CCI to expand its program and services.

The grant will also support CCI’s Community Case Management program that assists families to move in safe and stable housing quickly.

CCI is just one of 42 nonprofits across the U.S. to receive Day 1 Families Fund grants, as part of a continuing to help end homelessness for families.
