Local company to make blankets for the NFL

Posted

JANESVILLE -- A Janesville company will soon be warming up NFL fans, with specialty blankets.

It's a huge move by the NFL, because most throws are shipped to the U.S. from overseas. Monterey Mills will make the NFL team blankets for The Northwest Company in New York.

The owner of Monterey Mills, Dan Sinykin, explained his blankets are made "sliver knitting" or fiber-based knitting. Two blankets are then sewn together.

The art of this industry had been lost over the years. Most are now made in China.

"We want the holidays to be special for everyone and keeping those jobs in this country is a big job and responsibility," Sinykin said.

Two hundred and fifty employees in his Janesville and North Carolina facilities will fulfill the thousands of orders.
