WAUWATOSA — Multiple Milwaukee area law enforcement agencies are investigating an incident that resulted in a Wauwatosa police officer shooting a woman in downtown Wauwatosa around 9:15 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 10.

According to WPD, the initial response happened after a caller reported a woman "violently attacking" another woman in the area of Underwood and Harmonee.

Officers responded to the call and resulted in one officer shooting a woman.

She was transported to a local hospital to be treated for her injuries. The status of her condition is unknown at this time.

Shortly before 11 p.m., a small group of protesters gathered along the perimeter of the scene. They demanded answers, specifically from Wauwatosa Police Chief Barry Weber, TMJ4's Ben Jordan reported.

The protestors left the area on their own just before 1 a.m. Friday morning.

West Allis police and the Milwaukee County Sheriff's Office responded to the incident as well.

WPD reports that rumors indicated the woman was a part of a protest group. WPD said they believe that information to be inaccurate.
