MILWAUKEE — A new art installation of 71 stainless steel beer kegs now makes up a tornado attached to the Northeast corner of Lakefront Brewery on Commerce Street.
The unique art will be a pleasant sight to see, as each keg will be lit with LED lights able to be programmed with any color combination imaginable. Towering in at over 40 feet, the installation is nicknamed "Kegnado," because of it's similar appearance to a tornado. Lakefront officials are hoping that the installation can be a way to give back.
"The river and the people of Milwaukee have been very good to us over the years. Our brewery has built one of the most unique and beautiful art pieces that any brewery in the World has ever constructed,” said Russ Klisch, President of Lakefront Brewery.
The original idea comes from Milwaukee's own Retailworks Inc. and was built by local craftsmen.
“We hope this unique project will spur other luminous art instillation along the river and encourage people and guests to stroll, kayak or boat up and down the Riverwalk," Klisch said.
Lakefront is currently programming the lights for an opening ceremony being hosted in September.
The celebration will include food trucks and of course, lot's of beer.
Lakefront Brewery’s Kegnado Ceremony begins at 6:30pm on Thursday, September 12th with the lighting at 7:15 p.m.
