Kohler golf simulator adds new experience

With Wednesday being National Golf Day, it seems fitting to explore the new one-of-a-kind golf simulator in Kohler where year round you can grab a club, take a swing, and get the indoor experience at the Shops in Woodlake.

“The public doesn't normally get to see simulators of this quality and experience these,” said Dirk Willis PGA Director of Golf with Destination Kohler. “Typically you have to have them in your home.”

Now anyone gets the unique chance to play on over 60 of the top courses in the world in this 3D world.
“That 3D rendered environment truly creates the most realistic playing experience that you can possibly have on a simulator,” Willis explained.

The aboutGolf simulator uses high speed cameras to read the golf ball off of the club and measures everything from total yards to club speed to sidespin.

“You can make it windy. You can make it calm. You can make it foggy. You can make it sunny, all these sorts of things,” Willis described. “You can change the conditions of the ground. You can make it hard. You can make it soft.”

It’s all to improve your game and challenge yourself.

“This is a less threatening environment sometimes than a golf course,” he said. “You don't have to chase after the ball.

The ball comes right back to you off of the screen and just sit, relax, enjoy yourself and have a drink while you're playing a round of golf in here.”

And if your golf game is having an off day or if the sport just isn't for you, there's a variety of other arcade-style games that you can try like mini-golf or skeeball.

Currently, aboutGolf and Kohler golf professionals are creating course designs for the four world-class golf courses at Whistling Straits and Blackwolf Run. They should be on the simulator next year.
