KENOSHA -- The official theme of this year’s Kenosha Civic Veterans parade may have been “honoring Kenosha’s history,” but the city’s history wasn’t the only thing highlighted Sunday as thousands gathered to watch the parade procession go by.

“It’s fun, it’s festive, [and] I like the floats,” Kecesia Evans said.

According to Evans, the floats attract her to the parade each year while other people like, Donisha Dixion, said they come out to watch because it's simply tradition.

"Us as a whole family we like to come here most of the years," Donisha Dixion said.

"[We] enjoy the little parade, and then we go home and have a barbecue," she continued.

Despite the parade preferences of some, the most common theme behind what prompts most people to attend is family.

“It’s a time where we all get together and cook, it’s just all about family," Evans said.

According to Evans, she and her relatives attend the parade each year and this one is even more special than the others because of a new addition to her family.

“It’s my baby’s first fourth," she said.

Kenosha resident, Vanessa Christiansen, said she can relate to that sentiment as well because, for her, the fourth symbolizes a day for family too.

“I like the Fourth of July because everybody can get together and have a good time," Vanessa Christiansen said.

"I get to spend time with my daughter [too]," she continued.

Many people in Kenosha said for them, the city’s parade is just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to festivities for the Fourth. In fact, they have a few days of celebration left, including a day for fireworks.

“The fireworks is the best part because one, it’s at night and it lights up the sky," Dixon said.

"It’s crazy, everybody loves it," she continued.

This year's Festival Foods Fireworks in Kenosha is slated for Tuesday, July 4, 2017, at 9:30p. The fireworks will launch from the east end of Harbor Park.
