The Waukesha JanBoree kicked off on a damp and dreary Friday afternoon, but it didn't stop the crowd from coming to the opening ceremonies.
The temperature hovered around freezing which kept it cold enough for the ice skaters at the Lowell Park Ice Rink.
New this year were the hot air balloonists. They let people get up close to the baskets to see what makes those big balloons soar.
The ice sculptors carved one huge chunk of ice into a large snowflake and a smaller chunk of ice into a statue of John Malan.
Malan has served as emcee of the opening ceremonies for 20 years. For that, Mayor Shawn Reilly gave Malan a key to the city. It's the first key Reilly has handed out in his tenure.
TODAY'S TMJ4 is a proud sponsor of the Waukesha JanBoree. The event runs through Sunday, January 22. For more information visit janboree.org.
