EAST TROY — Alpine Valley Music Theatre is not hosting as many concerts as it once has, but music fans still have a few opportunities to see a show in East Troy this year.

The Outlaw Music Festival headlined by Willie Nelson came to Alpine Valley on Friday afternoon. It marked the venue's first show out of only four scheduled this season.

Concertgoers from all across Wisconsin made the pilgrimage to East Troy to hear Willie Nelson and take in the sounds of the amphitheatre.

"This is my first Willie concert. Me and a bunch of friends said, 'You know what, we want to see him,'" said Cindy Ricchio of Racine, who said she last came to Alpine Valley for a Rush concert in the 1980s. "Willie is a legend. He brought a lot of good memories into my family."

"It didn't dawn on me until I got out of the car that, 'Yeah, we used to do this,'" said Bob Hall of Madison, who said he attended Alpine Valley's inaugural concert in 1977 featuring Boz Scaggs. "To have sound the way it comes off in this amphitheatre, because it's such a natural setup, it's memorable."

The Outlaw Music Festival is the first of two shows at Alpine Valley this weekend. Country star Tim McGraw is taking the stage in East Troy on Saturday night.

The other two scheduled shows are both slated for September. Pitbull will play Alpine Valley on September 12 and Luke Bryan will close out the concert season on September 26.
