Christine Baranoucky, of the Children's Wisconsin Foundation, said the event is critical to the hospital's ability to serve patients across the state.
"Children's was founded by the community over 130 years ago, and we still rely on the generosity of the community through events like the Miracle Marathon to do the things that we do at Children's Wisconsin."
Baranoucky said much of the care the hospital provides is not fully covered by insurance or Medicaid, making community philanthropy essential.
"A lot of the care that we provide is not covered by insurance. Not fully funded by Medicaid and so philanthropy is really what helps us really do the things that we do at Children's Wisconsin."
All money raised through the event supports kids throughout the state of Wisconsin.
Baranoucky said stories shared during the marathon will span the full range of care Children's Wisconsin provides, from younger children to older patients reflecting on past experiences, alongside the care providers who treated them.
"It's really a day full of inspiration."
