MILWAUKEE, WI - Milwaukee Police continue to search for the man who shot and killed a beloved convenience store employee at the corner of 38th and North on the city's west side.

“I feel like it’s the same day," Katherine Mahmoud said.

"I haven’t been to sleep," she also said.

Katherine’s husband of 21 years, Ala Mahmoud was shot and killed Sunday morning. Police responded to the shooting at about 9:40 AM; Ala was pronounced dead at the scene.

“I’m hurt," Katherine said.

"I’m broken... It hurts," she also said.

The 40-year-old worked at the store his father previously owned for a number of years and was well known in this west side neighborhood.

“We are tired of the killing," Ricky Buchanan said.

"We need to bring peace to this neighborhood," he also said.

That push for peace is starting with candles and sympathetic sentiments at the steps of where Ala was killed. According to Katherine, her husband was shot in the head. MPD states a robbery may have been the motive, but they’re relying on area surveillance video to paint a better picture.

“Somebody is going to recognize that figure even if they had a mask on. He will be caught," Katherine said.

Because of that shooter, Ala will never get to see his children grow up and he’ll never meet his third child his wife is currently carrying, but Katherine said he will get justice as she tirelessly works to put the man who killed her husband behind bars.
