Dylan Pavia was identified as the 19-year-old driver who was killed in a car crash in Racine County Thursday.
According to the Racine County Sheriff's Office, just before 2 p.m Pavia was driving near County Highway and 7 Mile Road when he lost control of his car. They said he moved into oncoming traffic and hit a van head on.
Pavia was thrown from the car. The driver in the van was not injured.
By Friday, a wreath stood near the crash site.
"I don't know like still in shock. It doesn't feel real," said Kari Pavia, Dylan's mother.
Kari said she believed her son was on his way to Franklin where he worked in sales.
"They said 'are you Dylan Pavia’s mom?' and I said yeah, and that’s when they told me he was killed in a car accident," she said. "I thought it was a joke. I thought they were talking about some other kid not mine."
"He was someone that encouraged others to want to do better," said Kari.
Kari said Dylan was independent. Her favorite thing about him was his kindness.
"Just hug your kids tight tonight because they may not be here tomorrow," she said.
Kari said she works two jobs and is struggling to afford a funeral for her only child. She set up a fundraiser through Facebook to help with the expenses.
Her manager at Main Hub in Racine said they also plan to hold a fundraiser Sat. May 11 from noon-5 p.m.
