The mayor of Manitowoc is confirming via tweet that the South Pier Lighthouse on Lake Michigan has collapsed.
The mayor retweeted a report from WUCB Radio which states the collapse appeared to be from heavy waves prompted by heavy rains and wind gusts.
The mayor says the Coast Guard has been notified because it is their lighthouse.
Rest In Peace, South Pier Lighthouse. We can now add this to our upcoming attractions in our Marine Sanctuary along with the shipwrecks.
