A Hazmat situation and evacuation at a Milwaukee business Thursday morning was blamed on a suspicious smell from paint thinner or a paint thinner byproduct.

Firefighters arrived at USF Holland shortly before 11 a.m. The freight company is located in the 6100 block of S 6TH Street, close to General Mitchell Airport.

The situation was cleared and employees were allowed back inside by noon.

Nineteen people were evaluated and determined to be stable at the scene. All refused transport to a hospital.
