The Hartland South Elementary School was put on lockdown due to a police incident that was near the school but not at the school itself.
The district implemented its safety plan at the other schools as a precaution, according to the superintendent.
Hartland Police say there is no longer any threat to the public.
The school lockdown has since been lifted, and students were released at their regular time.
