It’s an exciting weekend for Harley-Davidson riders. The iconic company is hosting its annual Milwaukee Rally.

Dealerships around the area, as well as the Harley-Davidson museum, are featuring live music, contests and activities.

Michael Pflughoeft, Manager of Corporate Media Relations for Harley-Davidson, said the rally brings in riders from around the world – and even some people who are just Harley fans.

“It truly is an opportunity to showcase the city and to showcase Harley-Davidson,” Pflughoeft said. “It’s a great chance for people who may not even be riders to come experience the lifestyle.”

Michael King, a longtime Harley-Davidson owner, flew in for the rally from Washington.

He said he’s visiting his grandson, Devon Kemp, who now lives in the Milwaukee area.

“You get to meet people from other places. That’s what it’s all about,” King said. “All of the Harley riders, we’re like a big family.”

“It’s pretty cool being here with my grandpa,” Kemp said. “He’s been a Harley guy since he was young. That’s all I remember.”

At Milwaukee Harley Davidson on Silver Spring Drive, Marketing Manager Brooke Pape said the rally visitors mean sales are up.

“This is a wonderful weekend of business,” Pape said.

She added the economic impact of the Milwaukee Rally goes beyond Harley-Davidson dealers. Visitors from out of town are spending money on hotels, restaurants and souvenirs.

“It’s supporting all of our local businesses,” Pape said. “It’s supporting the people who live and work here.”

At Harley-Davidson’s plant in Menomonee Falls, the Milwaukee Rally included the chance to test drive new 2018 model motorcycles.

Eric Vanderlinden, who was visiting from Illinois, enjoyed the experience.

“You get to ride the different bikes back to back, so get the feel of each particular bike,” Vanderlinden said.
