GREEN BAY -- Four North American river otter pups have are the newest (adorable) additions at the New Zoo & Adventure Park in Green Bay.
The pups, born last month, are the first of this particular species to be born at the zoo. A breeding pair was introduced in 2014, and the zoo says the babies are "the result of careful planning to maximize the genetic diversity of the captive otter population."
All four of the pups have yet to open their eyes, though the zoo says they're thriving under their mother's care. They should be ready to begin exploring their habitat by early May.
"Mother otter Bonnie is spending the majority of her days indoors, out of sight" caring for the babies, the zoo says. "Proud papa Skokie, on the other hand, is always looking to interact with visitors and is accepting congratulations daily!"
Daily otter feeding chats, which start Memorial Day weekend at the zoo, will give visitors the opportunity to learn more about the species.
