MILWAUKEE — Cody Castaneda's grandmother is recovering after being attacked just after 11 a.m. Tuesday in the parking lot of the Pick 'n Save on 27th Street.

Her grandmother was severely bruised and shaken up in the attack, but she did not sustain any broken bones or a concussion, Cody said.

Cody's grandmother was loading groceries into her vehicle. The cart was next to her, with her purse in the child seat area, according to the Milwaukee Police Department.

The attacker pulled up next to the victim in his vehicle, exited the vehicle and took the purse, MPD said in a news release.

Cody's grandmother attempted to grab her purse from the attacker, MPD said, and a struggle ensued.

The attacker took the purse from the victim, police said.

Cody's grandmother thought she had lost her gold wedding band in the scuffle, but the ring was found.

Here is the statement from Pick 'n Save:

"We continue to work with MPD on the incident."
