A dog has died after reportedly being locked inside a vehicle with the windows up in the Lambeau Field parking lot near the Packers Pro Shop.

Green Bay Police Lt. Tom Buchmann said police were called around 12:30 p.m. Thursday to find a golden retriever that was supposedly in the vehicle for about three hours.

The dog was brought to an animal hospital where it was pronounced dead, with a core temperature that registered higher than the thermometer used at the hospital, Buchmann said.

Police have referred a felony charge of mistreating an animal resulting in death against the dog's owner, a 55-year-old Lawrence woman, to the Brown County District attorney's office.

Buchmann said pet owners should not bring their dogs in vehicles while shopping due to how rapidly the temperatures can increase even if it doesn't feel all that warm outside.
