The Germantown police warned Snapchat users about using the new Snap Maps feature on the popular image smartphone app.

The maps feature shows the exact location of the user on an interactive map, allowing people to see the area, town and street you’re at in real time. If you zoom in, people can even see what part of the building you are in.

Police said on Facebook this could be concerning for parents and others, who would want to keep their location or the location of their child private.

When using the program, you too can see exactly where your friends are as well.

To turn off your location, click the gears icon in the top right corner of the screen.

This will pull up the settings menu. To hide your location, check the box next to “Ghost Mode” and your location will no longer be visible.
