Frostbite, cold weather cases reported at Wisconsin hospitals

The simple act of stepping outdoors Wednesday is dangerous due to wind chills at minus-40 degrees and the potential for bodily harm including frostbite.

Local hospitals saw various patients for cold weather-related incidents.

Froedtert Hospital reports four frostbite patients and one cold exposure patient.

Ascension Wisconsin Hospitals has seen 13 frostbite cases, three falls related to snow/ice, four hypothermia patients, three cases of chest pain related to shoveling and six people who experienced breathing difficulties due to cold air. The hospital reports that five of the 14 frostbite cases were sent to its Regional Burn Center at Ascension Columbia St. Mary's in Milwaukee for treatment.

There have been two cold weather-related deaths reported in Mount Pleasant and Kansasville.
