FRANKLIN — Introducing the Milky Way Drive-In, a new drive-in theater coming to Franklin.

Beginning Friday, May 22, movie goers will have a new theater option. The Milky Way Drive-In schedule kicks off Memorial Day weekend, the 22, and will run through Labor Day.

There will be two shows daily, with the first being family-oriented and the second being for a more mature audience. There will also be a weekly late night feature for high school-age teens and young adults.

This new drive-in will be located at Ballpark Commons, and comes from a collaboration between the Milwaukee Milkmen, Franklin Tourism, and Studio Gear.

“Given our current shared challenge in combating COVID-19 via social distancing, the drive-in concept is a great way to gradually and safely ‘return to community’,” said Mike Zimmerman, CEO of ROC Ventures, developer of the Ballpark Commons mixed-use development and owner of the Milwaukee Milkmen.

In addition to movies, the drive-in will also offer food. There will be a "car hop" option for guests as well as stadium style food. Food will be provided by local food trucks and vendors.

Studio Gear will be installing a 40-foot LED board for the movie image, and will use radio frequency for the audio.

"The Milky Way Drive-In is a fantastic outlet for our technology and expertise – it’s hard to imagine a more ideal partnership," said Mike Atkins, General Manager of Studio Gear.
