MADISON -- A former Madison high school girls basketball coach has been convicted of sexually assaulting two 13-year-old girls in the 1990s.

A jury in Dane County deliberated about six hours before finding Shelton Kingcade guilty Thursday night. The 44-year-old Kingcade faces up to 50 years in prison.

The State Journal says one of the victims, now 37, says Kingcade sexually assaulted her for two years beginning in 1997 after she confided in him about her rough home life.

The woman says she came forward after learning that a friend's daughter was going to play basketball at Madison West High School, where Kingcade was coaching. She sent an anonymous letter to the school district, which sent it to police.
