Fond du Lac welcomes back firefighter who had been serving in Afghanistan

FOND DU LAC (NBC 26) -- A Fond du Lac firefighter who had been deployed to Afghanistan received a welcome home ceremony Tuesday.

Brett Hefty serves as a firefighter/paramedic to Fond du Lac Fire/Rescue. He also served as as a member of the Wisconsin Army National Guard, Bravo Company, 2nd Battalion, 127th Infantry based in Green Bay.

According to Fond du Lac Fire/Rescue, Sergeant Brett Hefty was deployed to Afghanistan in support of Operation Freedom’s Sentinel in March 2019. He returned home November 2019.

The formal ceremony welcoming Hefty home included the Honor Guard formal presentation of colors, the National Anthem and God Bless America sung by the Winnebago Lutheran Academy Choir, and speeches by the fire chief, city council president and city council manager.

Now working as a firefighter/paramedic, Hefty is assigned to Fond du Lac Fire/Rescue's fire station 2 on the city’s east side.
