The family that crashed in Pewaukee over the weekend leaving their three-year-old son dead was on a family camping trip celebrating his birthday.

25-year-old Nicholas Dischler is facing homicide charges after his son was killed in the crash Sunday.

His fiancé was in the car as well. She told police the boy was not in his car seat at that time of the crash.

Dischler told police he drank "10 beers sometime between before sunset on Saturday and 1:00 or 2:00 a.m. on Sunday.” The crash occurred justbefore 6 a.m. Sunday

He told officers he fell asleep at the wheel, waking up after he crashed head-on into a tree.

First responders thought the child was asleep at the time of the crash. TODAY’S TMJ4 has been trying to get answers about while life-saving efforts were delayed.

Part of a prepared statement sent out by Pewaukee Mayor Steve Bierce said, “The City can say that all relevant factors and information are under review to ensure that applicable policies and procedures were followed.”
