Families spend Memorial Day outdoors at Menomonee Park

MENOMONEE FALLS, Wis. — Between the sunny skies and toasty temperatures, people felt the call to get outside because in Wisconsin, who knows how long it will last.

"It’s perfect weather. It’s not too windy. The sun is out," said Changzong Xiong.

For Changzong and his friend, Menomonee Park was the perfect escape on Memorial Day. The two spent hours kayaking and fishing.

"It’s nice. It feels normal again. With the quarantine and everything it’s crazy but we’re out here again. Although there's precautions and everything we’re six feet apart so it’s pretty nice out," said Changing.

TMJ4 News did not see any visitors wearing face masks, but people seemed to be keeping their distance from each other.

Dogs went for a dip while parents kept the kids busy.

"They love fishing, catching frogs, just being out in the water. They’re water babies," said Josh Witkowski. He spent the holiday in the park with his girlfriend and their twin boys.

"We’re just enjoying the sand and sunshine getting out before we do more yard work," said Mary Sheldon as her two kids searched for snails and played in the sand.

"We love the sunshine yeah feels good to have a different scenery than your own backyard."

With summer weather just starting, Mary's family is looking forward to more days like this
