MILWAUKEE (AP) — The former president of the Milwaukee Public Schools board of directors has pleaded guilty in an alleged bribery scheme.

Authorities say 60-year-old Michael Bonds accepted bribes for his votes to help Philadelphia-based charter school company Universal Companies operate three schools in Milwaukee.

The Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports Bonds pleaded guilty Monday in a deal with prosecutors under which he has pledged cooperation with an ongoing federal investigation. He made his plea in federal court in Philadelphia.

Bonds faces up 10 years in prison and a $500,000 fine at his sentencing, which is tentatively set for September.
