The Milwaukee Police Department is investigating a shooting at a north side church Saturday afternoon.
Emergency crews were called to Greater Mount Sinai Church of God in Christ at 5384 N. 60th St. after receiving reports of the shooting at around 1:30 p.m.
Several windows at the church were busted out following the incident.
Billie Ward was attending the funeral and says things were winding down when she heard a handful of shots and took cover.
“We don’t know if the guy was inside or out, but it sounds so loud, it sounds like the problem was at the door if not directly inside,” Ward said.
A 29-year-old man was shot. He was transferred to a local hospital with non life-threatening injuries. Another man drove himself to the hospital with minor injuries.
The shooter is still at large.
TODAY's TMJ4 has learned that the funeral was for a man who was shot and killed while sitting in a vehicle recently.
The church released the following statement:
We the Greater Mt. Sinai Church are sorry that today's shooting took place at our church. The church was leased out to a family to lay their love one to rest. Pastor Victor C. Davis, Sr. and the Greater Mt. Sinai Church family extend their prayers to the family and the community.
It’s not clear what prompted the shooting.
