KENOSHA — Two elementary school students reported to school officials that they had been approached by a suspicious vehicle Wednesday afternoon. Officials are now saying it was "just a misunderstanding."

Officials said the people in their van were actually parents of students at the school and were attempting to contact them.

"We waved at him," said Sergio Barrientos, the parent who saw their own son on the playground at lunch and waved at him. "A lot of the other kids around the neighborhood that attend here, they know us, they call us by name and a lot of the other kids that didn't know us were under the impression of something else."

Barrientos lives across the street from the school and were in what was initially considered as a "suspicious vehicle."

"The good news is the kids are on top of things," said Barrientos. "In the end, you've got to laugh a little about it but stay serious about what really lies out there."
