East Troy man arrested for third OWI, woman critically injured

A Waterford woman is being treated for life-threatening injuries after a crash early Sunday morning in Yorkville.

Police say the 36-year-old woman was the passenger of a 37-year-old East Troy man that veered into oncoming traffic just after 12:30 a.m. on State Highway 20 near County Highway U.

Witnesses say the the man had been drinking prior to the crash and that people had tried to warn him to avoid driving, even attempting to arrange alternative transportation.

The man and his passenger were both transported to the hospital. The driver of the other vehicle was not injured.

According to Racine County Sheriff's Office, the drunken driver was later arrested for his third OWI offense and felony causing injury by intoxicated use of a motor vehicle.

The suspect is still being treated for minor injuries but will be transported to Racine County Jail upon release from the hospital.
