MILWAUKEE — The bus driver accused of leaving a 3-year-old child on a bus has been charged with child neglect.
Lamonica James, 44, was charged with neglecting a child after Milwaukee police she failed to perform a walk-through that would have found a 3-year-old who had fallen asleep.
Milwaukee police said that James did not notice the child had fallen asleep and didn't comply with company policy that required a walk-through. James drove the bus home, police said.
The child woke up and began crying, banging on windows until a citizen saw her. The doors of the bus were pried open by firefighters.
James told police that she was responsible for the children on the bus and had failed to see if any were left before getting off the bus.
James' next court date is scheduled for February.
