FOND DU LAC COUNTY -- Fond du Lac County Sheriff's office rescued a stranded dog on Lake Winnebago on Friday.

The sheriff's office received reports that a black lab had been stranded on a strip of ice surrounded by water about half a mile offshore.

The owner was going to attempt to kayak over the open water between the areas of ice to retrieve his pet, but authorities stopped him and sent three members of the dive team to rescue the black lab.

The sheriff's office highlights the dedication of these divers:

"The three dive team members that responded included Deputy Nick Venne, who was working 2nd shift patrol, Sergeant Eric Halbach, who was off duty and just leaving home with his wife and son to celebrate his son's birthday, and Lieutenant Chris Dobyns, who was going out to dinner and bowling with friends and family to celebrate his birthday."

They successfully coaxed Buddy Boy back to shore and reunited him with his owner.
