RACINE — A man found unresponsive and barely breathing in a house fire early Monday is recovering.
The fire broke out about 5 a.m. in the Village of Union Grove. Flames were seen coming through the windows, according to a neighbor.
While Racine County deputies searched the home, one man escaped, but another was found lying on the basement floor. A deputy dragged the man out of the home, where he regained consciousness.
Racine County Sheriff Christopher Schmaling is praising his deputy.
"This act of courage and bravery is just another proud example of how our deputies put their lives on the line each and every day all in the spirit of public safety. I couldn't be more proud of Deputy (Eric) Schneider."
The cause of the fire is being investigated by the Racine County Arson Task Force.
