The Delavan-Darien School Superintendent Bob Crist send out an email to parents detailing what they should do in the event of a raid by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement.

Crist sent an email with information about immigration raids to parents and staff earlier this week. It explains what to do if ICE knocks on your door.

"That was it just for your information," Crist said.

Crist sent the e-mail when he noticed students weren't coming to school and missing the required ACT. Almost 50 percent of students are Latino.

"Based on our number of minorities and some of them possibly are undocumented I recently found out that some parents were afraid to send their kids to school," Crist said.

The email from the Delavan-Darien Superintendent Bob Crist has parents talking. They said they aren't necessarily against the email, but surprised by it.

"It's probably not really his place, but...to each their own," said parent Chris Beck.

"I think it's kind of scary that we have to result that we have to turn to something like this. I think anybody should feel free to go to school and should not have any fear of going to school and we shouldn't have to send emails saying don't be afraid to go to school," said parent Monica Flesch.

The superintendent said he doesn't have a political agenda, but said he was simply trying to educate teachers and parents.

"There's no intent to encourage people to violate any laws. I would never do that, but they have rights. They need to know what they are and above all they need to provide for their kids in case the inevitable might happen sometime," Crist said.

The superintendent sent a follow up email to parents and staff Friday clarifying why he sent out the information in the first place.
