We met Shawn Alderton at the Hudson Business Lounge and Café in Milwaukee’s Third Ward. Alderton is the CEO of Affluent Amore Matchmakers. It is a matchmaking service that connects affluent people who don’t have time to do their own romantic searching.
The service is pricey for men and free for women. We met Alderton with the hope of getting some free dating information.
Within five minutes, she laid this one on us. “If somebody’s shaking hands with you, notice where their belly button is,” she shifted in her seat. “Believe it or not, if it’s pointed toward you, they’re interested in you. They’re attracted to you.”
In addition to being a keen observer of body language, Alderton has sage advice for all of us.
“After a date, it’s nice to at least send a nice text, ‘I really enjoyed getting to meet you. It was a lovely evening. I’m looking forward to seeing you again if you’re interested,’” she said directly. “And, then follow up the next day with a phone call.”
She gave that advice to the male reporter seated across from her, but it would appear to apply to all of us.
All of her advice made sense, and seemed to center around the sentiment of, well, not being a jerk.
“You have to be very cognizant of how you treat everybody from the first minute,” she said sincerely. “So notice the hostess. Be friendly. Use their name. Also the waiter, same thing.”
