STURTEVANT — A Cudahy High School gym teacher was arrested, after a traffic stop where a Sturtevant Police K9 found meth, THC-laced gummies and LSD in his car.

Craig Mertes, of Franklin, has been charged with felony possession of methamphetamine, misdemeanor possession of THC and misdemeanor possession of a controlled substance, according to the complaint.

The 32-year-old was pulled over in Sturtevant. Police say Mertes admitted to consuming alcohol at the Kenosha Country Club in Somers before driving.

Sturtevant police reportedly found a black duffel bag that contained 10.4 grams of THC gummy candies, 0.3 grams of MDMA (also known as ecstasy or Molly), and 1.3 grams of methamphetamine.

Mertes taught gym class at Cudahy High School and had previously coached golf and basketball at Kenosha Indian Trail High School.

A preliminary hearing has been scheduled for 9:00 a.m. on Aug. 22 at the Racine County Law Enforcement Center.
