Coyote sightings near a middle school in Elm Grove have school leaders at Pilgrim Park Middle School concerned.
The school is now warning parents. They sent out an email saying three coyotes were spotted near their school.
"We have a responsibility to make sure students are safe from the time they leave their home to the time they get to school. We take that very seriously," said Chris Thompson, the chief information officer at Pilgrim Park Middle.
Students were also advised not to use the trails to get to school.
"It's a shortcut for them to walk to school so they don't have to go to Pilgrim Road," said Bill Suhr. He lives in the neighborhood.
"We use to hear them at night almost every night. We saw one 2 houses down in the driveway," he said.
Suhr has seen plenty of coyotes through the years. He says a lot of kids live around the school and need to be careful, but pet owners also need to be cautious.
"We get concerned because we have dogs. We're very concerned about keeping him in the yard and on a leash," Suhr said.
The Elm Grove Police Department is posting all the coyote sightings on its Facebook page. It also has tips on how to try and stop coyotes from coming near your home.
