A 56-year-old Milwaukee teacher is dead and a 22-year-old man is in custody after a fatal assault in Milwaukee’s triangle north neighborhood on Thursday.
Family identified the man killed as Harry Odele Bruce. Police say the assault happened just after 5:30 p.m. near 12th and Walnut.
Bruce’s sons say their dad spent nearly 14 years teaching at Roosevelt. He was also a minister, a football coach and an author who wrote poetry.
But they say no matter what he was doing, their dad was always looking for a way to help someone else.
Police say what led to the assault remains under investigation.
The 22-year-old suspect remains in custody, and police say the case will be referred to the Milwaukee County District Attorney's Office for possible charges.
