MILWAUKEE -- Summerfest officials want to take the venue to the next level and plan to do so with new renovations.
Starting Monday, construction crews are upgrading the north gate and U.S. Cellular Connection stage.
"That sets the tone for people as they enter the grounds and right now it's looking a little shabby and a little tired, it has to be state of the art,” said Judith Viljoen, a festival attendee.
The music and cultural festivals have been a huge success but Summerfest officials say it was time for some rehabilitation.
"It's an amazing resource for the people of Milwaukee; yes we have to invest in it," said Sarah Smith-Pancheri with Summerfest.
"U.S. Cellular will be demolished and rebuilt with great amenities including the biggest video screen on the grounds as well as charging trees were you can charge your phone while you sit lakeside next to a beautiful tree. It's going to be as spectacular as other improvements that we make down here at the festival park," said Smith-Pancheri.
Patrons are looking forward to it.
"It should be nice for the people to enjoy, said Oscar Soto, a festival attendee.
Construction workers tell TODAY'S TMJ 4 the renovation project will take nine months to complete.
