Construction activity will pick up this week as part of the City of Wauwatosa’s Village Streetscaping Project.
Harmonee Avenue from Wauwatosa Avene to the Harmonee Bridge, will be reduced to one lane in each direction starting this week through Labor Day.
“You’re already seeing some of the utility relocation, moving them out of the way for the actual road construction,” said Tony Minto, Senior Construction Engineer.
Other areas impacted by what’s been dubbed “Phase Three” of the project to reconstruct the roads and utilities in and around the Village are Wauwatosa Avenue from Hamonee to State Street, Harwood Avenue from Wauwatosa Avenue to Mower Court, and Underwood from Harmonee to Milwaukee.
Minto said the bulk of the Phase Three work should be finished by the end of the year.
As work on the project picks up, local business owners like Deb Fowler continue to emphasize that they’re open during the construction.
Fowler owns the Flower Lady on Underwood Ave. She and other area business owners want the public to know that construction on State St., through the heart of the village, is all but finished.
“There’s a very small portion of work being done now, because of course the main part is all finished in the Village,” Fowler said.
New, wider streets have been installed, along with new lights and benches.
Minto said all that remains is putting the finishing touches on a fountain.
Fowler thinks activity in the Village is up since the improvements.
“The roads are nicer and easier to travel on. The signage is better,” Fowler said.
